Please be on time to drop off and pick up your children. The parking situation
may be difficult. Please plan an extra five minutes to park so you can be on
time.
Please use the patio doors only. It is not safe for children to use the door
facing Meadows. Your child must be picked up and dropped off at the patio
doors by an adult or responsible sibling. Please wait until doors are open
before leaving.
Emergency Card: Please fill both sides completely and return tomorrow.
This is very important for the safety of your child.
Folders: We will provide your child with a Meadows School folder. This
folder needs to come to school daily in order for notes to go back and forth
from home to school. The folders are placed in a bucket next to the sign-in
sheets when your child arrives at school.
Notes: Please write a note for tardies and absences on the day your
child returns to school. These notes can be placed in your child’s folder or
the basket labeled "notes for teacher". If they are placed elsewhere they tend
to get lost! The State of California requires us to monitor Average Daily
Attendance Records. Excused absences include illness and doctor appointments.
Unexcused absences include family vacations. If you are required to have your
child out of school for two or more days, we are happy to arrange an
independent study for your child.
Pick-up: If someone else is picking up your child from school. Please
write us a note. We cannot release your child to anyone other than those
stipulated on the emergency card.
Parent –School Communication: Weekly newsletters will be sent home
describing our events of the week. We will also keep you informed of important
dates and events. Every Tuesday, a white envelope with your child’s name on it
will come home with information/flyers from different organizations including
our school, PTA, Manhattan Beach Education Foundation, and other groups. You
keep the flyers and return the envelope with your signature and date. If
information needs to come back to us, please enclose it in the white envelope,
and return to school in your child’s Meadows folder.
Parent Communication-All of us here at Meadows School would like to
encourage parents to communicate with us frequently either at home or at
school. Please feel free to call or send us a note when you have questions or
information to share. Judy Ellis works 7:40 to 4:00 in the office,
310-318-7345, and will be very willing to answer your questions or leave Mrs.
Murray or Mrs. Radl a message on our voicemail x5636 and we’ll be happy to
return your call as promptly as possible. My email addresses is
dradl@manhattan.k12.ca.us School Attire: Please send your child to school in comfortable, casual
clothing. This includes shoes appropriate for physical education and play at
recess time. You may want to keep an extra sweatshirt/jacket at school for
those unexpected cool days. Remember to label all your child’s belongings.
Allergies/Questionnaire: Please fill out the allergy form and
questionnaire, sign and return tomorrow. We would like to know if there are
any concerns as soon as possible. We cook a great deal in our kindergarten
classroom and we will inform you prior to cooking and eating in class. We will
only need a response from you if you wish your child not to participate in
these activities.
Supplies: Due to the nature of our hands-on kindergarten curriculum, we
will be asking for additional supplies for classroom projects and cooking
throughout the year. We will inform you of our needs via the weekly newsletter
and/or a sign-up list on the patio doors. We thank you in advance for
supporting our classroom needs.
Homework: We have homework daily for parents to work on with their
kindergartners-READ aloud to your child!!!! You will be given a monthly
calendar to fill out and turn in to your child’s teacher to record your
reading with your child. We will also be including various math, science and
writing activities throughout the year for homework activities to be done
with your child.
Sharing: Each week your child will have a specific day to share
something from home. At the beginning of the year, this may be a special toy
or stuffed animal. As we become more involved with our themes each week, we
will ask that the students bring something related to that theme. The students
have an opportunity to share using oral language as well as to teach something
to their peers during this time. Many, many interesting sharing items from
student households have provided more depth and learning to the themes that we
study. This time also allows students practice speaking to a group and
responding to questions from the group as well.
Computer: Your child will have the opportunity to work on our classroom
computers on a weekly basis. The schedule will be the same as the sharing day
schedule. This will make that day a special one for your child! During our
free exploration time, children whose day it is will have the opportunity to
work on the computers. We will have a scheduled computer lab day after the
holiday break with our computer lab assistant.
Independent Study: If your family is going to go on a family vacation for
5 or more days, then speak to your child’s teacher and we can put together an
independent study plan for your child to complete. Please try to give us a
week’s notice so we can prepare the materials for you.
